Pinkie Pie and Rarity from S01E07, Dragonshy. Twilight said to create a diversion, so Pinkie obliges in standard Pinkie fashion. Rarity is confused by the randomness, as probably anyone would be. I'm trying to be show accurate, so please point out any issues!

Made in Illustrator. 4-ish hours for Rarity, 3-ish hours for Pinkie, not including error checking.

MLP:FiM is a Hasbro property

...
An interesting aside: I've now vectored five different ponies (one 3 times, the others once), one dragon, one bunny and one rubber chicken. Everyone's favorite purple pony is not among these. It's not that I have something against Twilight Sparkle, but haven't been inspired yet. (As of 2012/10/21, that has been rectified :D)

Edit 2012/10/17: Fixed Pinkie's nose.
Edit 2012/10/18: Fixed some stroking issues.
Edit 2012/10/21: Fixed more stroking issues. Added the source file. I'm surprised no one mentioned the different stroke widths between Rarity and Pinkie (5pt vs 6pt).
Edit 2012/10/24: Fixed stroke width issues.
Edit 2013/04/17: Fixed a stupid.

Rairity's eye color is covering her entire eye. Where is the white part of it? o.O ??? (*I do not Know the proper names for eye anatomy, I'm Sorry :( *)

Yup...perhaps an animation error (it was that way in the source), but I like it this way. It makes her look even more unsure of what is going on :P Thanks for pointing it out!

And it's the iris covering the sclera :D

Nice vectors!

Only one very, very tiny error: (it's hard to see, even at the highest resolution)
In the top of Rarity's ear, there's a little spike in the outline.
Oh, and Pinkie's right front leg has a dark pink color. Was that intended?

I guess that you create the outlines as strokes of single, non-closed paths. It's a simple and fast way to create outlines, but as side effect it lets the strokes end in weird peaks. You can avoid that, if you:

a) create the outlines as filled paths, then you you have total control over the shape of the outline.
(time consuming, but worth it)

or b) convert your stroke-outlines into filled paths via a "convert to path"-tool (i don't know if it exists in Illustrator, in Inkscape it does) and manually smoothen out edges, peaks or something like that.
(a middle coure between your method and way "a", both in quality and time consumption)

Oh, my... sorry for that monologue. Think about it! Umm, if that's okay with you...

Thanks for pointing that out. It was an issue with the path width tool. It seems to freak out around sharp, smooth curves (if that makes any sense).

The odd leg stroke color was a mistake on the color guide I was using. It was pointed out, and I fixed it on the back but not the front. Oops.

As mentioned above, I use the path width tool. What "weird peaks" are you referring to?

Illustrator does have the stroke to path command, but aside from the issue above, path width seems to be far simpler, easier, and much faster. Thoughts?

Thanks again for the feedback! Updating *now*.

About the weird peaks: i marked some here: [link]
Basically i mean the "sharp pencil"-look. Where the line should (relatively) slowly thin out at the end, it makes a sudden knik and runs in a straight line to the endpoint (like a pencil tip). See for example the parts marked in pinkie's mane.

And now a solution:
You vectored and vectored (using path width) and in the end you have these "sharp pencil"-ends at some points. Now you convert these strokes to paths and manually make them less pencil-tip-y.

And about the path-width-vectoring-way:
Yes, it is simpler, easier and faster. But vectoring everything (well nearly everything; for the little lines in mane and tail I use strokes, too) as filled paths is a challenge. It's a lot more difficult and you can easily mess things up, but you can "finetune" the paths.
I think that this way you not merely "trace" the template, but to some extend create your own individual piece of art.
Hmm... that sounds awfully like art theory...
To put it simple: That way you can create something more special.
But that's just my amateur opinion. :)
